Scope of work:

We performed an inspection and repair on a gearbox ASUG GVE 800x3,75-800x0,4.


This client from The Netherlands came to us with this ASUG GVE 800x3,75-800x0,4. We inspected the gearbox and performed a repair. After a succesful testrun we shipped the gearbox back to the client.

This page presents the findings of the performed overhaul on the propulsion gearbox on board A2B Energy, located at Schiedam, The Netherlands. GBS international was invited to perform the as below mentioned work.

Scope of work:

- Inspection of all shaft, gears and bearings
- Inspection and disassembly of remaining parts
- Replacement of all roller bearings
- Check of the axial clearance of all bearings
- Assembly of the gearbox on board the ship
- Assembly of the oil system
- Flushing of the gearbox
- Test run of the gearbox without

- Gearbox housing o The four bearing pockets from the intermediate shaft and PTO-shaft were refurbished by laser cladding;

- The white metal radial bearings were replaced by 2 spare bearings delivered by the client;
- The axial clearance was reduced by making a new axial collar and replacing 1 set of axial pads [DE] by 1 complete spare set delivered by the client
- The gears were inspected by NDO. There were no cracks found.
Output shaft
- The white metal radial bearings were checked for their bonding this was done because of the cracks on the input bearings. there were no significant damages observed;
- The pitting on the gears is acceptable because it is on the non-working flank. Recommended is to annually inspect the progress of the pitting on the gears;

Intermediate shaft
- The roller bearings were renewed;
- The gears were inspected by NDO. There were no cracks found;

PTO-shaft
- The roller bearings were renewed; o The gears were inspected by NDO. There were no cracks found;

Mechanical oil pump [gearbox]
- The pump was overhauled and replaced it with the stand-by pump;

Mechanical oil pump [stand-by]
- The stand-by pump was replaced with the gearbox pump;
- Oil cooler o The seals were renewed there were no leaks found during the pressure test;

Vulkan clutch PTO-shaft
- 2 hub’s were refurbished by laser cladding;
- 2 support rings were renewed;
- 2 carbon fiber rings were renewed;
It is recommended to:

- Carry out an oil-sample analysis annually
- Monitor temperatures during sailing
- Check oil filters annually
- To follow the maintenance schedule as specified in the gearbox manual.
